Your Bright Future: 12 Contemporary Artists from Korea

Choi Jeong-Hwa (born 1961 in Seoul, Korea; lives and works in Seoul) is a versatile artist who works with a wide range of media—video screens, molded plastic animals, real and fake food, shopping carts, and massive inflatable sculp- tures. The established leader of Korean Pop Art since the 1990s, Choi is concerned with the ephemeral and variable nature of material life and consumer culture, as is reflected in the very unstable nature of the materials he employs, like plastic. Many of his recent works of bright and colorful monumental sculptures and installations draw inspiration from this abundant plastic life.
