The Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, are proud to present Your Bright Future: 12 Contemporary Artists from Korea. Given the vibrancy of the Korean and Korean-American communities in Los Angeles, Houston, and other North American cities, and the fascination of the contemporary art world with East Asia, it is surprising that major museum exhibitions focusing exclusively on contemporary art from Korea have been exceedingly rare in the United States. Despite the presence on the international scene of renowned figures such as Do Ho Suh and Kimsooja, South Korea’s accomplished—indeed, often fascinating—contingent of artists is too little recognized. With in-depth presentations of works by twelve artists born between 1957 and 1972, Your Bright Future is an effort to bring the consideration of contemporary Korean art to the fore.
Your Bright Future is at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art from June 28, 2009 to September 20, 2009, and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston from November 22, 2009 to February 10, 2010.
